BizInfo Day 2019

Bizinfo day november 8/19

A professional development opportunity for library workers across BC

The Academic Business Librarians of BC invite you to a day of sharing and discussion about business resources, research strategies, patrons, and more at SFU’s downtown Vancouver campus.

When: Friday, November 8, 2019, 9am-4pm

Cost: Free!

This professional development opportunity is being offered in recognition of the fact that business questions are common in most types of libraries… whether from entrepreneurs hoping to map out a business plan, nonprofits drafting advocacy strategies, or job seekers seeking industry overviews.

We’re all constantly exploring and experimenting to work with challenging research questions that touch on marketing, finance, HR and beyond – let’s get together to share what we’re learning!

Register

Use this online form to hold your spot. Register soon -- space is limited, and we'd love to see you!

Agenda

This informal "non-conference" style event doesn't have a strict and detailed agenda. In general, the day will be divided into two main sections, both of which will include many opportunities for sharing by all attendees:

Morning: Short (15-30 minute) sessions, largely by BUSLIB-BC members, each of which will include plenty of time for audience discussion. Speakers are still being sorted out, but it's likely there will be discussions about such topics as serving local entrepreneurs and negotiating with vendors.

Afternoon: Lightning talks (generally 5 minutes or less, but we're flexible): All attendees are welcome (and encouraged!) to take part.

Note: The registration form includes a question about whether you are interested in doing a "lightning talk" during the event. This is intended to help us with our planning. If you aren't currently sure what you might share, you will also have a chance to sign up during the event.  Perhaps something mentioned in a morning session or by a colleague at lunch will remind you of a resource or topic you'd like to share, or maybe you'll just want to raise a question to see if others have grappled with similar issues?
