The Media and Maker Commons has one Singer Heavy Duty 4423 Sewing Machine for use by active SFU students, faculty, and staff.
Training and getting started
Before using the sewing machine, you will need to complete online training to learn the minimum skills required to operate the machine.
After this online training, you can also do hands-on training with a member of our staff during which you will review basic principles and gain troubleshooting experience as you work with the machine.
Once you have completed the Canvas course, you can schedule an appointment with the Sewing Machine in our reservation system. If you need additional time, please contact us.
Materials and supplies
There are basic materials available for use, but we recommend bringing in any fabric, notions, sewing scissors, or other supplies needed to create your projects. Sewing thread, machine needles, and bobbins are provided by the Maker and Media Commons. We also have scrap fabric for you to practice on.
